6 Electrical Tips

  1. Understand that electricity is dangerous and must be treated with respect. Always consult an Electrician when doing fault repairs or installations. Never do a complete DIY electrical project unless you are experienced with electrical appliances.
  2. Educate yourself about electricity and its products and services so as to enable you to handle it properly. Never be scared to ask when buying electrical products.
  3. For those who do not have internet access, fall back on buying reputable brands and buying from responsible resellers. Beware of buying on the basis of price alone – the pain of poor quality will be felt long after the pleasure of a low price! It is always a good idea to spend a little more on branded electrical products as they have a traceable reputation and more than likely follow a Code of Conduct when manufacturing their products. Crabtree is one of the leaders in electrical products and is also a respected member of the SafeHouse Association.
  4. Keep electrical products out of reach of children – and this especially includes extension leads, adaptors and sockets. By investing in child proof safety covers, you are educating your family in a safe environment about electricity.
  5. Do not overload electrical sockets with appliances and devices. Many people overload which causes electrical products to burn out, trip your lights or cause house fires. Understand the currents that an electrical product can draw and work within those measures.
  6. Always read and follow manufacturer's instructions. The manufacturer has taken the time to educate you so take the time to listen and learn.
